The Lego line of building toys has a tradition of emphasising the emergency services in their City and Town range, with particular focus on Fire and Police.Their latest incarnation of the classic Fire Station is the eleventh incarnation of a firefighter's building since the first set in 1978.The latest few versions have been criticised by hardcore fans for being too simple and this latest set seems to address at least some of those criticisms. At 662 pieces and with the main building measuring 17" (43cm) long and over 9" (22cm) tall it is not a large set but to give Lego credit, the fire stations have never been big in this area. They are intended to be highly playable for young builders and in this respect Lego has delivered another winner. The set comes with four mini figures, the fire station building, a fire chief's car and a fire engine.Accessories include fire axes, extinguishers, computers, walkie talkies, a recycling bin, hoses, shovels, brooms, ladders and many more.Inside the station there are two garages, a staff area including a coffee machine, a sleeping quarters and even a fire pole. The fire station houses both vehicles cleanly, though there is not much room left over when the fire engine squeezes through. The fire engine is pretty cool and instead of opening doors on the side the roof lifts up on a hinge to seat two figures inside. The fire car is small and practical with opening doors at the side and back for storing equipment like the rescue net which is a new feature. So as you can see, the emphasis here is on playability.Instructions are clear and bags are numbered for an easier build and the set comes with stickers which probably won't bother young fans.Overall a great set for a child wanting to grow their established city town or for the young fire fan who you want to introduce to Lego.

Best Lego Sets For Christmas, 2010
Kids love Lego and it is one of the most popular presents to give a child at Christmas, this year is no exception. There have been a heap of great sets out this year so we take the guess work out of deciding which set to give, whether your child is a long-time Lego fan or is new to the toys.Best Lego City Sets Like most years there have been some great Lego City sets released in 2010.Fan favourites include the new Power Functions train sets, the new Airport (3182) and the Fan's Choice for 2010, the Public Transportation set (8404).Not surprisingly all three deal with vehicles which are always popular with both kids and adult Lego fans.Smaller sets that drew a lot of attention within the City theme include the City Delivery Truck (3221), Helicopter and Limousine (3222) and the Pig Farm and Tractor (7684) set.Best Star Wars Lego Sets Always popular with fans, the Star Wars theme had a number of highlights this year. The most notable of which was the latest release of Boba Fett's Slave 1 (8097) and the new AT-AT (8219).It is safe to say however that one of the most popular Star Wars Lego sets for 2010 is yet to be released, with the Ultimate Collector Series Imperial Shuttle (10212) on target for a November release.Lego Castle Sets The Lego Castle theme was renamed "Kingdoms" this year and came with a new look.Highlights with fans included the new King's Castle (7946) and Outpost Attack (7948) in the larger sized sets while smaller hits were Knight's Showdown (7950) and Prison Carriage Rescue (7949).Harry Potter Lego Sets No list of the best Lego releases for the year would be complete without mentioning the upcoming Harry Potter Lego releases, due out in November to coincide with the release of the penultimate Harry Potter movie. There will be some very popular sets in this theme and will be worth checking out if you know anyone who is a fan. With news of new 2011 sets being slowly released we can be assured that Lego is here to stay and will bring smiles to many faces come Christmas morning.

I always thought Lego should make a Stretch Limousine, but could never find one in stores. I searched Amazon for a Lego Limousine and this product showed up. This is one of the coolest sets Lego has ever made. I would reccomend this set to anyone who enjoys Legos. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful A Kid's Review = Durability: This review is from: LEGO City Set #3222 Helicopter Limousine (Toy) WOW! Once Toys R Us runs through its stock, expect third-party retailers to boost the price to high levels.**I am the same nut-job parent who reviews many of the other Lego trains on Amazon. So while I am partial to Lego, I'll give you as good a review as I can. The Public Transport set is supposed to be an exclusive set sold only through Toys R Us and Lego. Some smaller retailers have gotten a hold of it. The set itself was the result of a customer vote among three City themed sets. The centerpiece of the set is a smart, blue and white, three-section light-rail train. The vehicle uses Lego's small train wheels; this makes for a more compact design, but these wheels have higher friction than the standard wheels and cannot be powered. The wheels fit Lego's L-gauge track (used by all of the other Lego trains). You don't need track for this vehicle but I find the kids enjoy running it on a layout as a... He loves it....As a Lego brand product, I am assured of quality and workmanship. Great purchase. 2 of 3 people found the following review helpful By = Durability: This review is from: LEGO City Set #8404 Public Transport (Toy) Love this toy and I love legos. My son does too. But Amazon can be a rip off. I bought this from Toysrus for 80.00!! |
